Classic & Modern: A Story of Two Bathroom Remodels
When this homeowner reached out to us again, after remodeling her kitchen a few years earlier, she was looking for help fixing a failing vent stack that had started causing issues in her home. As we opened up the walls, it didn’t take long to realize the problems were a little bit more than just the vent stack. And on top of that, both guest bathrooms (that shared this vent) had reached a point where they were no longer functioning properly. The tile was failing, the finishes were dated, and in one of the bathrooms, the shower had completely stopped working. All this was a recipe that called for a quality remodel, and we delivered.
Balancing Two Designs
The downstairs bathroom aimed to stay true to the home’s original style and time period. Essentially, creating a more refined version of what was already there. Upstairs, the direction leaned slightly more modern, influenced by earlier updates and subtle midcentury touches that had made their way into the home over time. Because both bathrooms were being renovated simultaneously and the homeowner was cost-conscious, the designs required a careful balance between investment and impact. Every selection was made with intention, ensuring the homeowner could achieve the look and functionality she wanted across both spaces without compromise. One of the fun moments in the design process came from an inspiration image the Designer provided to the homeowner, an image of a striking blue tile wall. That image ultimately guided the direction of the upstairs bathroom and paired seamlessly with the vanity selection the client fell in love with.
The Transformations Speak for Themselves
Throughout the process, we leaned on creative problem-solving to bring the vision to life. Whether it was pivoting from a wall-mounted faucet to a counter-mounted option due to framing constraints, or going beyond standard details like color-matching outlets to the surrounding walls for a more cohesive finish. The final designs are layered with character-driven elements, from the arched shower opening and bold feature tile wall to the basketweave flooring with a bordered edge, classic half-wall tile with integrated soap and toothbrush holders, and a custom Mouser vanity with added custom legs. Paired with quartz countertops, gold cross-handle fixtures, stacked glossy wall tile, and restored original radiator covers, every detail works together to create spaces that feel both timeless and highly personalized.
