A Long-Awaited Full Home Remodel

This long-anticipated remodel was completed for a returning client who loved their home but struggled with several awkward, underperforming spaces. The primary goal was to improve flow, efficiency, and functionality, allowing them to enjoy their home comfortably for many years to come.

Reworking the Kitchen & Main Living Areas

The kitchen and dining area posed the biggest challenge. Long, narrow proportions and irregular walls limited movement, so the layout was reworked to better connect the space to the rest of the home. A cherished cherry hutch and dining table guided the cabinet selection, while black accents were layered in to modernize the cherry tones. The sink was moved to the island, professional-grade appliances were added, and the range was centered on the main wall with full-height cabinetry on either side. A corner coffee nook and a quartz countertop with a matching backsplash ledge completed the space.

A Pantry Designed to Perform

In the redesigned pantry, custom upper shelving, a quartz countertop, and a beverage refrigerator elevated both function and style. A new glass door was added to bring natural light through the space, reinforcing the home’s open feel.

Connecting Indoors and Out

Across from the pantry, a full-length 15-foot door system was introduced. The operable door was relocated closer to the kitchen, with fixed panels extending beyond it to create a strong visual connection to the expanded dining area while maintaining light and openness. The family room was fully integrated into the kitchen, and window placements were adjusted for better spacing and exterior alignment.

Smarter Use of Space

The oversized office was resized to better suit daily use, with three windows bringing in abundant natural light. And by making the office smaller, we were able to add a notable upgrade, a guest bathroom. Which, surprisingly, was something the large home had lacked on the first floor. The idea behind the bathroom started as just a powder bath. But as the design process progressed, the homeowners realized it would be in the perfect spot (near the back entryway) where their two dogs always come in and out of the home. So they thought it would be a good idea to add a dog shower to the bathroom. But then they thought, “Why stop at just a dog shower?” So we expanded it a bit to make it a walk-in shower, and its transformation from a powder bath into a full guest bath was complete.

Finishing Touches Throughout the Home

The existing mudroom was refreshed with new finishes, doors, paint, and trim. In the living room, the fireplace became a focal point with a rustic reclaimed farm-wood beam, stacked-stone surround, new fire door, updated lighting, and a ceiling fan. And throughout the home, the original red oak flooring was carefully preserved and refinished, with new wood seamlessly integrated where needed.

A Collaborative, Enjoyable Process

As one of the first clients to experience our new Design Center, the homeowners described the process as quick, collaborative, and stress-free. With improved flow, cohesive design, and spaces that finally work together, this remodel reflects a project rooted in listening carefully, solving long-standing challenges, and designing around the way this family truly lives.
