A Home Remodel Without Limits
These homeowners wanted to remove the limitations in their home’s current layout that made it feel non-functional. Most notably, they had a large structural post in the center of their kitchen, disrupting the potential flow that the space could have. Removing that post was the defining moment in the project. Once eliminated and replaced with a stunning 18+ ft beam, the entire kitchen opened up, creating a brighter, more cohesive layout.
A Lighter, More Natural Kitchen
The updated kitchen embraces a lighter, more natural aesthetic, replacing the previous darker cherry finishes with off-white perimeter cabinetry and a select alder island. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops, a must-have for the homeowner, serve as a focal point that ties the entire design together. A reworked pantry near the powder bath improves storage and accessibility, while a built-in hidden desk area adds everyday convenience. The addition of a beverage area near the dining area and back patio makes entertaining effortless. Flooring was refinished to align with the new, lighter palette, while recessed lighting was updated to better suit the redesigned layout.
Reworking the Home’s Layout
Next to the kitchen, there was previously a space that served as a bathroom/laundry room/mudroom. That’s too many “rooms” for one room so we split it down the middle and separated it to create two distinct, purposeful rooms. A dedicated powder bath and a more efficient laundry space. In the new laundry room, we replaced the old mud room’s exterior door with a window and put a sink where the old privacy door to the bathroom was. In the powder bath, the design is meant to complement the kitchen, so you’ll see coordinated finishes (Taj Mahal Counter, Gold Finishes, and Select Alder Vanity) and a marble hex tile floor that adds subtle texture and visual interest.
Elevated Details Throughout
With the major layout improvements done around the kitchen, we also updated a few other spots in their home. The staircase got the same treatment as the old cabinets in the kitchen. We replace the outdated, darker style railings with a modern, lighter wood. And going up the beautiful new stairs will lead you to the guest bathroom, where we installed some new hex floor tile, a custom Mouser vanity, and brilliant stainless steel fixtures.
Designed Without Limits
By removing structural limitations, we were able to create a space that not only looks better, but lives better for our clients. Proving that when constraints are eliminated, great design has no limits.
